How to Apply for CSMLS MLT Certification: A Complete Canadian Guide
The CSMLS Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) certification is the national standard for laboratory professionals in Canada. This guide explains every step of the application process.
Who needs CSMLS certification?
In most Canadian provinces, MLT certification through CSMLS (or a provincial equivalent) is required to work as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. CSMLS General certification is recognised nationally.

Step 2 — Submit your application

Go to csmls.org → Certification → Apply.

Official transcripts must be sent directly from your institution. International applicants submit credential assessment documents.

CSMLS reviews your application and issues an Authorization to Test (ATT) when approved.
Step 3 — Schedule your exam
- 165 multiple choice questions — 3.5 hours (210 minutes)
- Passing score: 65% (approximately 108 correct out of 165)
